If the Azure primary region (in this case, Australia South East) experiences an outage, there are several important steps and considerations for handling the situation.
-
Service Availability: Any services, applications, or VMs deployed in the affected region will likely experience downtime. This includes compute resources (VMs), storage, networking, and other Azure services such as databases, AI, etc.
-
If the primary region is unavailable, you aren't be able to perform management operations on the storage account. Because the Azure Storage resource provider doesn't fail over, the Location property will return the original primary location after the failover is complete
2. Recovery Procedure
Azure's Regional Failover MechanismCheck for Azure Service Issues
-
Availability Zones: We have deployed resources across Azure Availability Zones within the affected region, they may continue functioning if not all zones are impacted.
-
Geo Replication is active
Monitor Status: Use Azure Status to check for any official updates. Azure provides a status page that will indicate whether the issue is with the entire region or specific services.
o Visit Azure Status for updates on outages.
